Our orchestra strives to maintain a high level of musicianship among our membership. Auditions are generally required for those who are interested in becoming new members.The LTSO holds auditions at the end of the season for the following season. However, we occasionally will hold individual auditions during our performance season depending on need. We maintain a list of substitutes, so even if a space is not readily available we encourage you to contact us if you are interested in playing with our group. Opportunities to perform as a substitute arise from time to time.
Formal auditions are required for all new members. The Principal chair person of each section will determine seating within the section and may appoint assistant principal players as necessary. Some sections have a limited number of players and the Conductor and Section Principal will determine the number of players necessary for each concert. The Section Principal may rotate seating within the section or ask that some parts be reduced in order to maintain the overall musical quality of the LTSO.
The orchestra has an attendance policy; normally, members may miss no more than two rehearsals relevant to each concert. The orchestra rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m., with an additional rehearsal on the Tuesday prior to a concert.
If you have an interest in joining us, please contact our Personnel Director, Lisa Selby prior to showing up at a rehearsal. This way it can be determined whether an opening is available for the instrument you play, and if so, an audition can be scheduled.
